-m-1-14-1899 Marie Anna Kratka S/O Joseph & Juliana "Suchomelova" Vasko. F/O six children, the youngest named Joseph II died from a lightning strike. He was born abt 1899 or 1900 in Czech. (his death cert states his age as 17) & -d-9-2-1916 in Porter, buried in the Mulga Cem, Jefferson Co, Ala. On his entry at Ellis Island 10-12-1907, he's listed as 4yrs/9mths which makes his birth in Jan, 1903. The other five, John, Frank, Mary, Jerry, & Joseph IV. Joseph Jr worked in coal mines in Czech. & Germany, before coming to the US, arriving in May 1907 & went to Ala where he mined coal. His wife & two sons - Joseph & John followed, arriving in the US 10-12-1907. They later moved to Wisconsin, then back to Porter, Ala, then to Silverhill, Ala, where he bought land & farmed. He became a US citizen 12-28-1918. Silverhill Resident Dies Suddenly. Joseph Vasko, a resident of Silverhill, died suddenly at his home Friday morning. He is survived by his wife, four sons and one daughter. Funeral services were held in the P. Z. K. Hall Monday with interment in the Silverhill cemetery.
