Bio

MAE E. KOBZA Mae E. Kobza, 76, died Wednesday, November 2, 1994, at her home in Rapid City. She was born January 1, 1918, at Dwight, Nebraska the daughter of Frank J. and Hattie G. (Stava) Maixner. She was raised at Dwight, then attended St. Mary's nursing school at Rochester, Minnesota. On January 12, 1945, she married Dr. V. V. Kobza at Dwight. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska before moving to Rapid City in 1947. Dr. Kobza died December 16, 1955, and she raised her family alone. She worked in nursing in Rapid City until retirement in 1982. Since retirement she has had an active ministry with her church, was a member of St. Benedict's Circle and worked as a volunteer at Sioux San Hospital. She was devoted to her family, neighbors and community. She was a was kind and loving individual who treated everyone honestly and fairly. Throughout her suffering she remained an avid Catholic, parent and grandparent. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, V. Thomas and C. C. Kobza, Houston, Texas, John and Susan Kobza, Reno, Nevada and Robert and Anita Kobza, Boise, Idaho, three daughters, Barbara Barraclough, Spearfish, Margaret Keene and her husband, Harvey, Rock Springs, Wyoming and Mary Kobza-Halle, Lead, 13 grandchildren, three sisters, Bernadette and her husband, Art Kramish, Leawood, Kansas, Rey Maixner, Topeka, Kansas and Georgi Ann Maxiner, Lincoln, Nebraska, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Betty Maixner, Seward, Nebraska, Aloyse and Marie Maixner, Lincoln, Nebraska and Mac and Donna Maixner, Missouri Valley, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and one son-in-law, Toby Barraclough. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with the Rev. Peter Wilke as celebrant. A Christian wake will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
