Robert Coufal Obituary WAHOO – Robert J. "Bob" Coufal, 75, of Wahoo, died Aug. 14 in Wahoo. Coufal was born on Jan. 14, 1932 to James and Wilma (Votova) Coufal at Abie. At a very young age, his family moved to a farm near Colon. He attended country school there and graduated from Fremont High School in 1948. After graduation he worked as a farm hand for area farmers for four years until being drafted into the United States Army in 1952. He served during the Korean War, receiving the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. Bob was honorably discharged from the Army on Feb. 1, 1954. When he returned home he attended the Milford Technical School, got his training in Tool and Die, and began his career at Western Electric in Omaha where he worked until retiring in 1993. He was united in marriage to Alyce Rezac on May 10, 1952 at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Colon American Legion Post 265, VFW Post 4502 and Fraternal Order of Eagles. An infant daughter, Carol Ann Coufal preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Alyce Coufal of Wahoo; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Connie Coufal of Mead, Bruce and Laura Coufal of Wahoo; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and John Peterson and Sandy and Roger Fujan, all of Wahoo; grandchildren, Jeremy and Carrie Coufal, Melissa, Travis and his wife April, and Becka Peterson, Maddie, Emily and Cassie Coufal; and a sister, Arlene Peterson of Valley. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo with Rev. Sean Timmerman officiating. Casket bearers are Tom Noha, John Ruzicka, Loran Houska, Bob Sabatka, Travis Peterson and Jeremy Coufal. Honorary casket bearers are John Noha, John Sanderson, Charles Ruzicka, Joe Kralik, Joe Houska, Jr. and Steve Peetz. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery with military honors conducted by VFW Post 4502 and American Legion Post 265. Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 17 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with prayer service at 7 p.m. at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Memorials may be made to St. Wenceslaus Church or School, or Bishop Neumann High School. Svoboda Funeral Home of Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements.
