Services for Edgar Paul Melcher, 85, of Meadow will be held 4 p.m. Monday at Christ the King Cathedral with Revs. Mike Melcher, Ben Kasteel and Malcolm Neyland officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at W. W. Rix Chapel. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under direction of Rix Funeral Directors. He died Friday, August 13, 1999, at University Medical Center. He was born Dec. 6, 1913, in High Hill. He married Vernita Brieger on Sept. 10, 1938, in Lubbock. She died July 29, 1984. He farmed in the Meadow and Ropesville areas. He was a member of Christ the King Cathedral and a recent member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Ropesville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3008, and served on the board of the Meadow Independent School District from 1964 until 1976. Survivors include eight sons, Eugene of Seagraves, Douglas and Calvin, both of Holly, Colo., Leonard of Austin, James of Levelland, Timothy of Brownfield, the Rev. Mike of Stamford and Dennis of Meadow; six daughters, Marian Blake of Wylie, Colo., Joan Blackmon of Lubbock, Patricia Farmer of Hewitt, Susan Tucker and Sandy Sanders, both of Lubbock, and Brenda Melcher of Meadow; two brothers, Robert and Lawrence, both of Lubbock; three sisters, Bertha Fritz of Lubbock, Gertrude Rogers of Roswell, N.M., and Margaret McWilliams of Boerne; 30 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
