Ella Beardsley died at the age of 101. She was the daughter of Mary Ellen (Leahy) Teats and Burt Teats Sr. Both her parents originated from Central City, Colorado, though she was born in Pocatello, Idaho. When she was 4, they moved to Miles City, Montana, where her dad worked in the Railroad Shops. Her mother died when she was just 14, raised by her father and older sister, Maymie. Ella graduated from Custer County High School in 1931. She taught at local rural schools on a two year permit, while taking night classes in Miles City, Montana. She then attended Normal School in Dillon, Montana, recieving her Teaching Certificate. Ella taught at Garland School on the Tongue River, south of Miles City, then at North Cottonwood, west of Ismay. There she met her future husband, John Henry Beardsley, a local Rancher whose family homesteaded there. They married on February 13th, 1929, in Baker, Montana, she was 21. They lived in his families original homestead house. In 1931, they moved to nearby Diamond Ranch, which they leased and eventually purchased. Together, her and John raised 9 children on the Ranch, along with Hereford Cattle, Horses, Cats, Dogs, and Chickens. In 1964, her husband was appointed Custer County Commissioner, they then purchased a house in town, and divided their time between their house and the Ranch. Her husband died in 1988 after 59 years of marriage. She was 80 at the time of his passing and remained a widow till her death, for the next 20 years. When her husband died, she remained at their house in town, returning to the Ranch, occasionally. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Burt Teats Sr., two sisters, Margaret Teats and Maymie Ballantine, three brothers, Burt Teats Jr., Robert Teats, and Jack Teats, her husband of 59 years, John Beardsley, two sons, David Bearsley and John Patrick Beardsley, two grandsons, Benjamin Herzog and Matthew Zook, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is survived by: Six daughters, Joanne Perkins, Mary Lee Brown, Myrtle Herzog, Ellen Zook, Kay Hofmann, and Karen Krutzfeldt, and one son, James Beardsley, She had 35 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.
