[Waterloo Daily Courier, Friday, March 13, 1942] M. W, R Berg, 59, Former Plumbing Inspector, Dies Secretary of Union; Death Due to Thrombosis Mathias W. H. Berg, 1224 Howrey Avenue, formerly for 13 years city plumbing inspector, died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Hospital of a coronary thrombosis. He was 59 years old. Berg was city plumbing inspector from May 1, 1923, when he was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by resignation of J. H. Stebbins until April 1936. Both before the time he became inspector and afterward, he was employed by Bruner & Salz Plumbing and Heating Firm. He had lived in Waterloo about 40 years. He worked until about three weeks ago, when he suffered a heart attack. Mathias William Henry Berg was born July 28, 1882, in Hilbert, Wis., the son of William and Catherine Berg. He married Jennie Rosima in Waterloo, June 7, 1911. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, secretary of the plumbers' union, local 384, and a member of the Moose lodge. Surviving besides the widow are three daughters: [Survivors removed per Find A Grave policy]. The body was taken to Kearns Garden Chapel.
