At about 8 o’clock Tuesday evening, while Mrs. Harry Spicka was pouring kerosene into a mantel lamp, an explosion followed, the shock causing Mrs. Spicka to drop the container and the contents spilled over her clothes and shoes. She was immediately in flames. Mr. Spicka came to her rescue to extinguish the flames. Hearing the excitement, Anton W. Uldrich who lives a short distance south of the Spicka’s cane to their assistance , but Mr. and Mrs. Spicka and their little boy were already on their way to town for medical assistance. The room was in flames and the neighbors put out the fire. Mrs. Spicka was able to walk to the car by herself. Mr. Spicka’s hands were badly burned while trying to free Mrs. Spicka’s burning clothes from her body. Mrs. Spicka died 1 o’clock Wednesday morning. *Nebraska Signal..7 Dec. 1933..p.9 ) Mrs. Harry Spicka Fatally Burned Husband Also Suffers Severe Burns Mrs. Harry Spicka , twenty eight, was fatally burned Tuesday evening at about eight o’clock at the family home three miles south of Milligan. Mrs. Spicka attempted to fill an oil lamp pouring kerosene from a two gallon can in some manner it ignited throwing the contents over her entire body bursting into flames. Mr. Spicka attempted to extinguish the flames but it was useless and in tearing the clothing from her body he suffered burns on the arms and hands. Neighbors hurried to the scene and aided in saving a part of the home. In the meantime, Mr. Spicka although badly burned took his wife in the family car and rushed to Dr. Blattspieler’s office at Tobias, where Mrs. Spicka passed away at 1:00 am Wednesday morning. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, one son, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kresak living west of Milligan. Funeral services were held today (Friday) from the Joseph Spicka home.
