Estelle Agnes Hickey passed away January 25, 2002 in a Beeville hospital. She was 96. Mrs. Hickey was born May 18, 1905 in Sweet Home, TX. Mrs. Hickey was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Austin, TX, she was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice since 1933. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Altar Society, a member of the Alice Deanery, and a member of St. Elizabeth's Order of Martha. Mrs. Hickey was Past President of the Corpus Christi Diocesan Council of the National Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of the KJZT, the Alice Fireman's Auxiliary, the Alice Garden Club and a member of St. Vincent de Paul. She was Educational Chairman of the Alice Council for Retarded Children, past President of the Alice Emergency Relief Fund, a life member of the Texas Congress of Parents and Teacher, and past Chairman for the Red Cross Camp and Hospital. Mrs. Hickey was a volunteer at Alice P&S Hospital for many years. Mrs. Hickey received the Pro Eccleseia et Pontifice Medal from Pope John XXIII in 1964 in recognition for her service to the Catholic Church and the Country, the Bishop Drury Medal in 1986 and was named Outstanding Senior Citizen of Jim Wells County in 1987. She volunteered at the Alice Regional Hospital, worked for the Democratic Party on election days, Trash and Treasures, and the Retama Manor nursing home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry X Hickey, Sr.; one granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Klare; one grandson, Michael Wayne Klare; one great-grandchild, Brooks X. Miketinac; two sisters and three brothers. Survivors include her daughter, Imogene Hickey Klare of Victoria; three sons, Perry X. (Tommie) Hickey, Jr. of Houston, Dennis E. (Jeannine) Hickey of San Antonio, and Charles L. (Kay) Hickey of Beeville; one brother, Eugene Valenta of Hallisville; 15 grandchildren, Phillip A. Hickey, David W. Hickey, Steven Hickey, Ronald J. Klare, Gary L. (Julie) Hickey, Perry X. Hickey, III, Mark E. Hickey, Jeffery L. (Kathy) Hickey, Bro. James M. Hickey, OFM, Craig L. (Kassie) Hickey, Crayton A. (Dawn) Hickey, Polly Devine, Eleanor Ann (Thomas) Ruhnke, Denise (Kenneth) Taylor, and Melissa (Charles) Miketi-nac; 27 great-grandchildren, David Hickey, Frank Devine, Phillip Hickey, Jr., Kenneth Taylor, Travis Klare, Thimothy Hickey, Adam Devine, Justin Klare, Michael Hickey, Myles Taylor, Clinton Klare, Justin Hickey, Jacob Hickey, Christopher Hickey, Cade Miketinac, Kendra Hickey, Lacey Buchord, Sara Hickey, Cait-lin Klare, Kristen Ruhnke, Dylan Hickey, Lauren Ruhnke, Chelsea Hickey, Ellis Hickey, Emily Mike-tinac, Kimberly Ruhnke, Natalie Miketinac; one great-great-grandchild, Jacey Buchord. Visitation will be Saturday, January 26, 2002 and Sunday, January 27, 2002 from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, January 27, 2002 at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 28, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Perry Hickey, Jr., Dennis Hickey, Charles Hickey, Phillip Hickey, Steven Hickey, Ronald Klare, Craig Hickey and David Hickey.
