Bio

On Friday April 3, 2009, Ruth Iola (Knutson) Lewis quietly slipped into the Presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born in Warren, Minnesota on April 24, 1937, the fourth of five children of Richard and Geraldine Knutson, which included Richard Knutson, Jean Knutson, Glen Knutson and Esther Knutson Smith, all deceased. Her family moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1944 during World War II to work at the Naval Ammunition Depot. She went to Hastings Public Schools and graduated from Hastings High School in 1955. Ruth attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK where she excelled in music. She later completed training at the Lincoln College of Business, Lincoln, NE. In 1956, she became a secretary at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE, followed by a position as an executive secretary at the Nazarene Foreign Missionary Society, General Headquarters of the Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, MO and the "Back to the Bible" Broadcast in Lincoln, NE. From 1961 to 1972, she served as a parsonage wife for churches in Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky. Ruth served as special projects secretary at Trevecca Nazarene College, Nashville, TN in the 1970s. From 1980 to 1989, she was a faculty secretary at Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO and was the Office Manager and appointments secretary for the Colorado Springs Christian Counseling Services from 1986 to 2008. Her love of music provided her with opportunities to sing in traveling trios representing her college, the Acappelo Choir, and as a summer stand-in for the "Showers of Blessings" radio broadcast program for the Church of the Nazarene. Ruth, an avid reader, led her family frequently to the library - a passion her children and grandchild continue. She also relished engaging in the Women's Bible Study at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Colorado Springs, CO and raising beautiful flowers and roses at her home. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard Lewis, three children, Sherri (Donald) Peach of Colorado Springs, CO, Kerry Lewis of Tulsa, OK and Shauna (Jerry) Goodwin of Woodstock, GA, and four grandsons, Joseph Goodwin, Jarod Goodwin, Ryan Peach and Cody Peach. A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, at Shrine of Remembrance. Pastor Alan Scott will officiate a Service of Celebration at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain, Colorado Springs, CO, 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, and a graveside service will be held at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Weston, MO, 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society.
