Marshall was born the son of John Thomas England and Elizabeth Hall in Macoupin County Illinois. John and Elizabeth were natives of Virginia, and had also removed into Tennessee with other families in the early 1800s. Then, those same families moved again north into Macoupin County Illinois ca1830. Marshall appeared as a youth of 5 years with his parents in the census record of 1850. 1850 census Macoupin Co IL John England 59 Virginia Elizabeth England 45 Virginia Thomas England 20 Illinois Marshall England 5 Illinois Martha England 5 Illinois Elizabeth Henderson 14 Illinois Bennet Jones 10 Illinois Marshall served in the Civil War for the Union, attaining the rank of Corporal in Company "D", 49th Indiana Infantry. He must have been injured in battle, as he was listed as invalid [see below] and received a pension. Marshall married Melinda Etter on 17 September 1874 In Macoupin Co IL. Children: 1.
