Bio

Mary Alice (Moffett) Ker, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully at her home in Hermiston, OR, on Friday, March 27, 2009. Mary was born on March 9, 1929, to Charles and Loretta Moffett in Tacoma. She was number eight of 13 children. It was a baker's dozen, but all the while, a happy but somewhat crowded home. Mary attended Garfield High School in Seattle, where she excelled in musicianship, playing the Cello and singing second soprano. She met Richard Joseph "Judge" Owens and they were married in 1948, while divorcing in 1966. To this union, they had five children, Mark, Craig, Maryann (Georgia), Brian and Jay. Craig died when he was a baby and Jay died in 1991. Mary moved to Quincy in 1971, and married Melvin "Bud" Treosti. While working together for 15 years, they raised cattle, pigs, a horse and Roxie the Shepherd, on the Crazy-Q Ranch until Bud's death, due to a train crash near Winchester. A few years later, she married her longtime friend, Wayne Ker. Following 20 years of hard work and turning the farm into a very large and successful venture, they decided to retire in 2005. Wayne passed away in June 2005, leaving Mary a widow again. Mary decided to move to Hermiston, OR in the fall of 2008, due to health reasons, to be closer to her son, Brian. She is survived by her children, Mark Owens of Quincy, Maryann (Georgia) Burton of El Sobrante, CA and Brian Owens of Hermiston, OR; grandchildren, Richard Burton, Timothy Owens, Angela and Alanna Collins and Crystal Ker; great-grandchildren, Alissa and Joshua Owens; siblings, Detta Marvich of Mercer Island, JoAnn Vizzare of Federal Way, Jeannette Urban of Colville, Glenda Wilson of Seattle and Dave Moffett of Renton; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by three husbands; two sons; and seven siblings. A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Free Methodist Church in Quincy, with Pastor Bob Lendermen officiating. Concluding Services and Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. You may sign the guest book or leave a note to the family at www.scharbachs.com.
