James Fielding was the son of James Fielden (Fielding) and Ann Henthorn. He and Betty Cooper were married and had six children. After his separation from from Betty, he married Mary Ann Dyson who had immigrated to Utah July 14, 1868. James and Mary Ann were married in the Endowment House in October 1868, 15 days after he was baptized a member of the LDS Church on Oct 2 1868. They settled in Hooper and its fertile farmland near Great Salt Lake. He built a 2 room house with adobe bricks he made himself, where they both lived until their deaths. All of their children grew up without being baptized but they were all given Bible names. Their 10th child, Eli, died when he was one year old. Two years later, their 12 year old Elizabeth died and the following day 7 year old Joshua died, both with diphtheria. Mary Ann had weakened lungs and died two months later on Jan 1, 1889, leaving James with their five sons and a daughter. James never remarried.
