James Homer was the son of George Eli Walkup and Sally Elizabeth Elrod of Tennessee Valley, Texas. Siblings were Bertha Ann, Nola Josephine, Samuel Hoyte, Goldie Rosendia, Thomas Edwin, Bettie Adeline, Cynthia Ida, and Gladys Walkup. Homer married Arvis Low and they had one child, Hayden H. Walkup.
