Carneal "Jack" Guthrie, 78, of Temple, passed away Wednesday night, March 25, 2009. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street in McGregor, with Kenneth Guthrie officiating. Interment will follow in Post Oak Cemetery near Oglesby. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Cole Funeral Home. Jack was born in Oglesby, Texas, to the late John Bartley and Mattie Eula (Beaty) Guthrie. He was a 1948 graduate of Oglesby High School. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years with one being in Korea. While stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita Kan., he met Elizabeth "Betty" Fields. On Nov. 28, 1954, they were married in Wichita. The first four years after his discharge from the military were spent attending Baylor University on a parttime basis at night. He was employed by Equifax in Waco and Temple for 34 years as an insurance investigator, retiring in 1989. During his life, many good times were spent with a few rough spots here and there which kept life interesting with some exciting moments. Over the years, the family remained close. Much of his life was spent in Waco and Temple. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Belton and playing golf poorly. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Lakeaire Owners Association where he served twice as president. Preceding him in death were brothers, Harold and J.C. Guthrie; and a sister, Dorothy Faye Muegge. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Guthrie; son, Paul Guthrie and wife, Kelly, of Wichita Falls; daughter, Patty Juntunen and husband, David, of Waco; grandchildren, Kristopher Juntunen and wife, Dava, Kyle Juntunen and Katie Guthrie and Camryn Guthrie; brother, Robert Guthrie and wife, Alice, of Gatesville; brother-in-law, Eldon Muegge and wife, Dorothy Jo, of Gatesville; and long time family friends, Mae Dell Dew and Betty and Bob Patrick.
