Elvira is the daughter of John Rufus Jeffrey and Amanda Mahaley Elizabeth Narcissus Allen Jeffrey. She was born in McMann, Texas. She married Merrill Doyle Hudgens on 30 September 1877 in Guadalupe Co., TX. They were the parents of seven children, Elvin Hamilton, Alma Sally, Dennis Alvin, Ollie Lee, Doyle, Glen Foy and James Rufus. Elvira was fourteen years old when she married Merrill.
