Northern VA News and Messenger: MSG Alton L. Douglass, age 73, passed away on August 12, 2008 at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Va. Alton was born on July 25 1935 in Little Rock, Ark., to Alton Jennings Douglass and Rennie J. Joiner. He spent his childhood in Arkansas then joined the Army in 1954. MSG Douglass' military service was with the Army Security Agency. His tours of duty included Ft. Devens, Mass.; Germany; Korea; Japan and Arlington Hall to name a few. He was awarded five Good Conduct Medals; The Legion of Merit; The Army of Occupation Medal; The National Defense Service Medal; The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; The Army Commendation Medal and The Meritorious Award with Oak Leaf Cluster. MSG Douglass also received many awards and accommodations. MSG Douglass served our country for 23 years before he retired. He took a position with FDS systems with IBM, retiring after 15 years of employment. Alton was survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Medrith (Seymour) Douglass; a son, Chris and his wife, Renia Douglass; a daughter, Kitty (Douglass) Weatherly; and grandchildren, Joseph Reynolds, Adam Reynolds, Karyn Douglass, Lindsey Douglass, Mollie Weatherly, and Emily Weatherly. Life celebration services will begin with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 26 at the Mountcastle Life Celebration Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA 22193 and services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 27. Internment with Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery will be Wednesday, September 3 at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions in Alton's name may be made to the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department or to the AMVETS National Service Foundation, 4647 Forbes Blvd., Lanham, MD 20706.
