SHAMROCK - Nolan James Pike, 76, died Sunday, March 15, 2009. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Martin and the Rev. Don Conner officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. James Pike was born Aug. 15, 1932, near Shamrock to Daniel Aaron and Josephine Hail Pike. He married Lucille Richardson on May 16, 1953, in Twitty. Mr. Pike worked for United Carbon, which later became Ashland Chemical, in Shamrock for 28 years. He moved to Louisiana in 1984 and worked for Sid Richardson in Addis, La., until 1994. James moved back to Shamrock in 1994 and worked for Elm Creek Ranch until his death. He loved his family, gardening and cooking. His favorite pastime was for his friends to stop by and visit him in his shop. Mr. Pike served in the Army with the 11th Army Airborne Division. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Shamrock Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Pike and J.C. Pike. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Pike; three daughters, Cathy Hill and husband Ronnie of Canadian, Christy Olson and husband Lewis of Port Allen, La., and Cindy Hoover and husband Gerry of Skiatook, Okla.; two sisters, Jodan Pierce of Amarillo and Bonnie Holmans of Jal, N.M.; a brother, Billy Pike of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Thomas E. Creek Veterans Administration Health Care System Hospitality House, 6010 W. Amarillo Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
