Farmer Shot to Death at Home QUANAH, Aug. 19. - J. Hubbard Phillips, 51, farmer in the Elba community near Quanah for 25 years, was found dead in a chicken yard at his home Tuesday. He had received a shotgun charge near his heart, and a 12-gauge shotgun was found near by. Justice of the Peace J.T. Freeman rendered a verdict of suicide. The body was found by a son, Curtis Phillips. Funeral services are to be held at Goodlett Wednesday afternoon, and buriel [sic] will be made at Kirkland. Survivors include his widow and four children: Mrs. Vivian Dunavant, Quanah; Curtis and Mildred Phillips, Elba, and Mrs. Hazel Klapper, Kirkland.
