Bio

My father's brother! Troy Ellington, 86, of Oxford, died March 5 at Heartland Hospice. The son of the late Grover and Julia Ree Thompson Ellington, he was a very hard working cattle farmer and also enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Mr. Ellington will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his wife Grace Fincher Ellington. Survivors include daughter Teresa Shelnutt of Oxford, grandson Perry Ray Shelnutt of Oxford, sister Ola Ree Coggins of Covington and brother Horace Ellington of Ellijay, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Floyd Street chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, with Brad Rutledge officiating. Interment will follow in the Ellington Cemetery in Oxford.
