Angus M. Stocks' Obituary Published in the "Times Independent 1920-04-15" A.M. STOCKS HAD LONG AND INTERESTING CAREER Funeral services for Angus M. Stocks, Moab pioneer who died Friday morning, were held Sunday afternoon from the ward meeting house. The services were conducted by Bishop C.A. Hammond. John Dalton offered the invocation, and the benediction was given by W.R. McConkie the speakers were John Peterson, O. W. McConkie and Bishop Hammond. Mr. Peterson's talk consisted of a sketch of Mr. Stocks' life, and he highly eulogized the deceased pioneer for the sterling efforts he put forth to blaze the trail through Eastern Utah for the development and prosperity of today. The speaker praised the honesty and fine neighborly spirit of Mr. Stocks, and declared that every resident of the town has benefited in some way from the ever ready helpfulness and indomitable courage of the pioneers of whom A.M. Stocks was one of the leaders. The other speakers told of their acquaintanceship with Mr. Stocks and praised him for the good service he has rendered his fellowman. Angus M. Stocks was born April 12, 1844, and had he lived three days longer would have been 76 years old. He was born in England, and at an early age came to America, living the greater portion of his life in Utah. He spent his life in pioneering work in the wildernesses of the state, and his career was a long and interesting one. Mr. stocks was twice married, his first wife being Mary Forbush, who died in 1884 at West water, this country, were the family resided before coming to Moab. Six children survived the father from the first marriage. After Coming to Moab, Mr. Stocks married Mary Crapo, who survives him. This union was blessed with ten children, who survived him. All Stock's Children, all of whom were present at the funeral with the exception of one. Are: Angus Stocks, Naturita, Colorado; Mrs. Mary E. Cummings, Bisbee, Arizona; William Stocks, La Sal; Mrs. W.J. Bliss, Moab; George Stocks, La Sal; Mrs. S. E. Francom. Payson; Mrs. Mark V. Beeson, Mrs. George Branson, James, Thomas, Leenard, Archie, Kate, Ima, Lilly and Edwin, all of Moab and La Sal.
