Mildred V. "Midge" Nieukirk, 87, of Washington died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in Washington. Born June 29, 1921, in Peoria, Ill., to Arthur A. and Viola Bolton Samms, she married Jack Anthony Nieukirk Sr. on March 24, 1940, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 2008, in Peoria. Surviving are three sons, Jack (Gaye) Nieukirk Jr. of Chillicothe, and Steven (Alice) Nieukirk and Randy (Scotti) Nieukirk, both of Washington; two daughters, Sandra Fisher and Connie (Chuck) Bradle, both of Washington; and three sisters, Ann Hany of Washington, Mae (Paul) Magnuson of Pekin and Judith (Marion) Beeney of East Peoria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Arthur Samms; her grandson, Steven Ray Fisher; and her son-in-law, Raymond L. Fisher. Midge worked at Wahfield Manufacturing in Peoria for many years. She and Jack enjoyed traveling and dancing to big-band music. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
