Katherine Warr Hamilton, age 96, of Myton returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on February 1, 2009 at the Uintah Basin Rehabilitation & Senior Villa. Katherine was born Feb. 23, 1912 in Kamas, Utah. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Vaughn and Joseph Franklin Warr. She was one of six children. Her father Joseph drilled water wells and then later in 1922 they moved to Myton where Joseph became the marshal of Myton when it was a booming place. On July 15, 1929 she married Richard "Dick" Hamilton. From that day on they were together in everything. Dick was a government trapper for 14 years. Katherine, by his side, learned to live on the desert, cook on an open fire and appreciate the simple but greatest things in life. In 1937 they bought a small ranch on the Duchesne River which she named Heathen's Bend. In May 1949 Dick went to work in the Parriette Gilsonite mine for 6 years and Katherine cooked for the miners. They returned to the ranch and started making cinder blocks. After 5 years they finally had enough blocks to make a house. On Jan. 12, 1991 Dick passed away. Soon after, Katherine moved to Myton to the house her mother had lived in long ago. There she became very involved in church activities and grew to love the sisters and members she associated with. On April 17, 1999, she was endowed, and sealed to her best friend and life companion in the Vernal Temple. Although having no children of her own, at times she was called on to be mother, grandmother, counselor and best friend to anyone who needed her. Katherine is survived by nieces and nephews, Lorna Barnes, Texas; Kay Johnson, James "Butch" Warr, Jack Warr, Loma, Colo.; Ada Horrocks, Janiel Gardner, Patsy Freestone, Joan Hunting, Veda Tomlinson, Cookie Richmond, Danny McKowen, all of the Uintah Basin; and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, parents, brothers: Buss and Ray Warr, sisters: Ilene McKowen, Emma Hamilton and Ethel McClure. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Myton LDS Chapel. Burial in the Myton City Cemetery under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary. -Uintah Basin Standard, February 10, 2009
