E. S. Johnson Earl Stafford Johnson, 56, of Star Route, died at 12:49 a.m. Thursday in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Hopkins County on Feb. 17, 1927 to Luther James and Theo Chapman Johnson. He married Marjorie Lou Ponder in Sulphur Springs on Dec. 2, 1950. She preceded him in death in 1965. He married Eva Tinsley in Oklahoma on Jan. 20, 1970. She survives. Johnson was a retired maintenance foreman with A. P. Green Brick Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Como American Legion. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Theo Johnson of Dallas; a son, Gar Earl Johnson of Como; a daughter, Kathy Diane Hicks of Longview; a stepdaughter, Wanda Grubb of Pueblo, Colo.; a brother, Joe Glenn Johnson of Dallas; three sisters, Imogene Clanton of Sulphur Springs, Dollie Davis and Pearline Watts, both of Dallas; two grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Frank York officiating. Burial will be in the Como Cemetery. Pallbearers are E. C. Goodman, David Barclay, Donnie Edwards, R. F. Carpenter, Bobby George and David Carpenter. Honarary Pallbearers are Wayne Hinton, Loyd Friddle, Buford Cook and Don Collins. The family will receive friends from 7:30 until 9 p.m Thursday at the funeral home.
