PAST AND PRESENT HISTORY OF LA SALLE COUNTY, ILLINOIS PAGE 403 CHARLES A. RINKER--He owned 100 acres in sect. 29. P.O. Marseilles, Ill. He was born in Wurtemburg, Germany on November 27, 1837 and came to this county in 1853 where he married Martha Muiling the daughter of Christopher Muiling on March 1, 1864 in Ottawa, Ill. They were the parents of seven children-the living children were: Charles C. Rinker, born Oct. 4, 1866; Martha Christina Rinker, born March 25, 1870; Jacob Rinker, born November 16, 1872; and Lily L. Rinker, born September 18,1876. He enlisted in the 64th Ill.Vol.Inf., Co. A. in Sept. 1861, known as the Yates Sharp Shooters and was at the taking of New Madrid, Missouri. Due to illness he was discharged July 2, 1862. After recovering he re-enlisted on Feb. 29, 1864, in the Vet. Vol. Battery C., 1st Ill. Light Artillery and was with Sherman on the campaign to the sea, the taking of Savannah and the fall of Atlanta as well as the Battle of Bentonville, N. C. He mustered out in Springfield in 1865. He was of the Lutheran faith. (My present information is that Lillian L. Rinker Miller died in Oklahoma in 1960 having married to a Calvin S. Miller--grave site #75644079 And Martha C. Rinker Smalley died in 1901 married to Walter Smalley and is buried at Allen twp. Cem. Ransom, Illinois) THE FAIR DEALER OTTAWA, ILLINOIS FRIDAY, MAY 16, 1902--PAGE 8 MORTUARY RECORD. CHARLES RINKER, an old soldier and retired farmer, died recetly at his home in Marseilles, of diabetes. Mr. Rinker was an early settler in the county, residing in Brookfield township, until about twelve years ago, when he moved to Marseilles. He is survived by a wife two sons and a daughter.
