Winfield Daily Courier, Saturday, May 28, 1955, Page 2 A double funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Broadway Mortuary for a mother and her son who were killed in the tornado at Udall, Kan., Wednesday night. They were Mrs. Mary Ellen Taylor, 62, telephone operator at Udall, who was killed at her post, and James Edward Taylor, 39. Mrs. Taylor was born Oct. 25, 1892, at Udall and had lived in the community all her life. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by her husband, Fred, of Udall; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy M. Heath of 1834 E. Washington, Wichita, Mrs. Opal Dowler of 842 S. Poplar, Wichita, and Mrs. Ida Gail Smith of Amarillo, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Hufford of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Maude Cone of Wellington, Kan., and seven grandchildren. Her son is survived by his father, two sisters, Mrs. Heath and Mrs. Smith and three nieces and nephews. He was born April 25, 1916, at Caldwell, Kan., but he had lived most of his life in Udall and the Wichita area. He spent five years in the Canadian Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion. Burial for both will be in Maple Grove cemetery. Obituary provided by Judy Mayfield.
