Bio
Roberta Faye Cappel died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at her home in McCook. She was 72 years old. Roberta was born on Sept. 9, 1936, in McCook to Andrew and Mary (Schutte) Kohmetscher. She attended McCook High School. She married Eugene B. Cappel on Feb. 10, 1973, in McCook. Their marriage was blessed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on March 27, 1999. She owned and operated her own ceramic shop. She also worked at Alco and Gibson's where she worked in inventory. Roberta was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, fishing and working in her flower garden. She also enjoyed playing all kinds of board games. She loved spending time with all of her children and grandchildren, especially playing cards. Preceding her in death were her parents, Andrew and Mary Kohmetscher; one great-grandson, Jared Michael Chitwood; four brothers, Jim, Hugh, Victor and Kenneth Kohmetscher; and three sisters, Betty Hull, Irma Marie Kohmetscher and Rita Titman. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Cappel of McCook; children, Terry Chitwood and special friend, Rose Vrooman, of McCook, Debbie Martin and fiancé, Rick Cumming, of Danbury, Peggy and husband, Dan Dueland, of McCook, Rose and husband, Joe Koetter, of McCook Janell and husband, Dennis Carson, of White City, Kan., Mark Chitwood and wife, Stacy, of McCook, Kathleen Cappel and special friend, John Spresser, of Herington, Kan., Todd Chitwood of Aurora, Bruce Cappel and wife, Cecilie, of Granite Falls, Wash., and Cindy and husband, David Pohl, of McCook; four sisters, Imelda Hays of McCook, Eunice Norman of Rochester, Minn., Maryanne Stritt of Indianola and Deanna Kohmetscher of McCook; 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 until noon; Sunday from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Monday until time of rosary. Friends may send condolences to www.carpenterbreland.com Rosary will be Monday, January 26, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
