Nettie "Altha" Van den Heuvel April 30, 1916 - November 24, 2008 Altha Van den Heuvel, age 92, of Fruita, Colorado entered into eternal life on November 24, 2008 while she was peacefully sleeping. Altha had been a resident of Mantey Heights Care Facility located in Grand Junction, Colorado. Visitation for Altha will be held Friday, November 28th 2008 at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction where friend's and family may call from 12 - 5:00 p.m. Funeral services for Altha will be held at the Mortuary on Saturday, November 29th 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor John Foreman will officiate. Burial will be at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Altha was born April 30, 1916 on the Ute Indian Reservation in a covered wagon in Vernal, Utah. She lived there until she was two years old. She spent her childhood in Fruita, Grand Junction and Collbran, Colorado. Altha's parents were farmers and being second to the oldest, Altha was in charge of taking care of her six younger brothers and sister while helping on her parent's farm. Altha married Neil Van den Heuvel, August 17th 1934 in Grand Junction, Colorado. They owned a cattle ranch north of Grand Junction; they had a daughter, Mary and two sons, Neil Jr. and William "Billy" Van den Heuvel. Altha enjoyed gardening, cooking, ice fishing, going on day trips or as she would say it "get out and go all the time". Altha will be missed for her wonderful compassion, her beautiful smile, her comforting laugh and her ability to make you feel better just by being in her presence. She is survived by her brother, Harry Kettle of Fruita, Colorado. She was a devoted and loving mother to her two surviving children, Mary Grant and Neil Van den Heuvel Jr. of Grand Junction. She was a loving grandmother of six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the loves of her life, Neil Sr.; son, William, one grandson, and two great grandchildren. She will always be loved and thought of as a very "giving" person, who enjoyed life to the fullest. In her loving words "I've done it all". Rest in peace Mom and Grandma, We Love You ...
