HINTON, Iowa - Katherine "Katie" Boulton, 94, of Hinton, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2004 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa. Services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars with the Rev. Klaus Raab of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today with the family present from 4 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 5 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Thursday and continue until service time. Katherine Margaret Boulton was born on Oct. 12, 1909 in West Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Rick and Tina (Martfield) Weber. She attended country school and continued caring for her family at home until marrying Peter J. VanderKooi on Dec. 21, 1932. They made their home in the Hinton, Iowa, area. Katie worked as an egg candler at Klass Produce in Sioux City. She would later candle eggs at the Le Mars Hatchery. Katie married William David Boulton on Dec. 19, 1951. She and William made their home in Hinton. She retired from the hatchery in 1965. William passed away on October 28, 1983. Katie continued living in Hinton until moving to Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars on July 14, 2003. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill and the American Legion Auxiliary in Hinton. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Fred VanderKooi of Merrill, Dale VanderKooi of rural Merrill, Iowa, Duane VanderKooi and his wife Patsy of Watkinsville, Ga., and Peter VanderKooi and his wife Linda of Bristol, Va.; a daughter Judy Lenig and her husband Harold of Rancho Dominguez, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; a sister Viola Rieken of Seney, Iowa; a brother William "Billy" Weber and his wife Doris of Foley, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Peter J. VanderKooi and William David Boulton; a granddaughter Karen Sherlock; a grandson William Hammons; brothers Henry and Alvin Weber; and sisters Bernice McKay and Dora Wenzel.
