Bio

Funeral services were for Lester L. Dollar of Houston, who died last Wednesday of injuries received in an automobile accident in that city. Burial was in the Malakoff Cemetery. Mr. Dollar died in a Houston hospital three hours after he was hit by two cars and run over by a third. He suffered a skull fracture, brain concussion, two broken legs and a broken right arm. The accident occurred on McCarty at Lyons, when, according to a deputy sheriff, an automobile occupied by H.A. Finnigan attempted to pass another vehicle. Finnigan said in a written statement to officers that he saw a man standing in the street directly in front of his car and swerved to the right to avoid hitting him, but that he was too close. Deputy sheriffs started a search the following day for the driver of the second car, which ran over Mr. Dollar as he lay on the pavement. He was wanted for failure to stop and render aid, it was reported. Mr. Dollar was run over a second time as Finnigan rushed to his aid after hitting him, a deputy reported. A third vehicle, driven by Billy Boyles of Clarendon, hit Mr. Dollar. Deputies said Mr. Boyles stopped just short of running over the victim. Mr. Dollar, 34 years of age, was born at Como, Texas, and went to Malakoff when he was a small boy. He lived in Malakoff until 1942, when he went to Houston to take a position as a longshoreman in the Houston shipyards. He had resided in that city since. He was employed in the coal mines in Malakoff until the mines closed. Surviving are his parents, J.W. Dollar of Houston and Mrs. Anna Dollar of Waco; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Blakeley of Athens and Mrs. Opal Patrick of Houston; and eight brothers, Ira and William Dollar of Houston, Alvin Dollar of Los Angeles, California, Tom Dollar of Mineola, Horace Dollar of Athens, Earl Dollar of Austin, Ray Dollar of Waco, and Charlie Dollar of Grand Junction, Colorado.
