Born in Sargent, Nebraska on May 30, 1922, to Ludvik and Annie Chalupa . Spent his early years in Sargent, graduating from Sargent High School and then teaching school . Called into the Army in October of 1942, serving for over 3 years with part of that time in the 8th Air Force in England as a B-17 mechanic gunner . Returning home in 1945, he resumed schooling at Morningside College . On June 10, 1946, he married Bette Jeanne Roberts of Sioux City, Iowa. To this union, two children, Michael and Susan, were born. After living in Long Beach and Needles, California, Bob moved his family to Goleta in 1969 . Worked as a welder for Southern California Gas Company until his retirement in 1985 . Survived by his brother, Garold; Sister, JoAnn Rathbone; children, Michael Chalupa and Susan Atrops; and two grandchildren, Carrie and Keven Chalupa . Was preceded in death by his wife, Bette, in 1977. Was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he was an active participant in worship and participated in the Braille Ministry . He will be remembered as a quiet, compassionate man who loved and devoted his life entierely to his wife and children.
