Born; Bennwihr, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France Died; (city), Kankakee, Illinois, USA Father; Peter Paul Knittel Mother; Anna Catherine Burlen Married; 02 Jun 1868 1st Spouse; Margaret Zaucker 1849-1874 Married; 28 Oct 1874 2nd Spouse; Barbara Weidner 1852-1919 Place shown as birthplace of Anna's father should be Alsace not Alsoss. Ignatz/Ignace/Ignatious was b. 6 Jul 1839 according to his birth certificate (and of his brothers in my file) in Bennwihr, Haute Rhin, Alsace, France. However, the Knittel's were not French, but German. There is a tombstone in the Bennwihr cemetery engraved 'Knittel Family'. No names listed. Ignace and 1st wife Margaret Elbert are my husband's ancestors. They had 4 children: Elizabeth Mary d. Stevens Co MN. and my husband's line; Helena d. infancy -Kankakee; Francis 'Frank' Joseph d. Chebanse; and Emma Steffina d.probably MN. aft 1900 census but bef 1914. Emma on the 1900 census with sister Elizabeth Mary 'Lizzie' and family. submitted by: jean
