Son of Henry Leslie Rumery of Fremont County, Iowa and Medora Blanche Runyan of Mason City, Custer County, Nebraska. Husband of Margery E. Moore of Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee; married on 14 August 1942 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. "Glen Arthur Rumery is remembered by his family as a "brilliant man" who affected all those who knew him through his roles as Boy Scout leader, tutor and volunteer. Rumery, who was born in Nebraska, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. He was 86. Mr. Rumery attended a one-room schoolhouse as a child and eventually moved to Knoxville in 1940 to stay with an older sister, according to his daughter, Rebecca Rumery. He enrolled at the University of Tennessee and took several years of night classes, excelling at mathematics and statistics. "He didn't make straight A's, he made straight 100's," his daughter said. Mr. Rumery worked as an engineer and statistician until he retired in 1984, she said. He was a leader at Washington Pike United Methodist Church and, during his retirement years, volunteered as a mentor at Inskip School and Emerald Youth Foundation. He was especially effective as a Boy Scout leader, recalled his daughter. "He was a Scout Master many years ago," she said. "I'm in my 60's, and he started when I was two, and there are grown men in their 70s who still kept in touch and talked about what an impact he'd had on their lives."
