Bio
Peter Younker was born in Coshocton County, Ohio. He was the brother of Jason T. Younker, who is recognized as one of the Pioneers of Denver. Peter lived on Jason's farm which was outside Denver when Jason first moved to Colorado from Ohio. In 1860, Jason and Peter's sister, Jemima Melissa Younker Harris and her husband, Marcus Harris moved to Colorado with their two small boys, Frank Leslie and Jason. The plan was for the Harris' to rent Jason's farm, as Jason wanted to move into Denver and establish a business. Unfortunately, there was an outbreak of typhoid fever and by January of 1861, both Marcus and his younger son, Jason had died. They were buried on the property, which we understand was later the location of a large power plant. According to notes from a relative who visited Denver in 1918 and who was taken to the grave sites of the Younkers in Riverside Cemetery, the remains of Marcus and Jason Harris were moved from the graves on the family property and buried along with Peter Younker.
