Bio

Verna Carson Peterson was born August 14, 1913 in Fairfield, Utah, the second daughter of James Abram and Julia Murrel Cook Carson. She attended school in a small, one room school house North of her home in Fairfield. This one room school housed all eight grades of students. She then was bused to Lehi where she graduated from the Lehi High School in 1931. She married her eternal companion, Alma Mercer Peterson on January 16, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with three children: Alma Kent (Jean) Peterson, Kaye (William G.) Powell and Vea Lynn (Kenneth E.) Jarvis. She was an accomplished, self-taught musician and had a beautiful singing voice. She was multi-talented homemaker who loved to be at home with her family. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in all of the auxiliary organizations. She passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Greenwood Manor in Lehi, Utah. She is survived by her three children and their spouses; 11 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two and one half great-great-grandchildren. A sister, Ruby (Robert S.) Wilson, a brother Neil C. (JaLaine) Carson; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Carson and Evelyn Woffinden also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Nora Murrel and Ada Kaziah, two brothers, James Herbert and Harry Edwin, granddaughter, Jamie Elyse Jarvis and great-great-granddaughter, Serenna Edlyn Jarvis. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Lehi 2nd, 5th and 9th LDS Ward Chapel, 465 East 300 North. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main Street, Lehi, Utah and one hour prior to the services at the Church on Thursday.
