Marvin Wesley Hardy was born June 10, 1915 to Dr. James Henry Hardy and Minnie Cecil Tate Hardy in Coleman, Oklahoma. He attended school in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. On November 12, 1938 he married his wife of 69 years, Dorotha Nuner, in Atoka, Oklahoma. In 1942 Marvin joined the army to serve his country during World War II. He was a Drill Sergeant in Miami Beach, Florida before being sent to Okinawa with the 8th Air Force Division. After his discharge from the army he returned to Oklahoma and worked as a construction foreman in Oklahoma City for 15 years. He then returned to Coleman where he pursued several careers including ranching, deputy sheriff, guard at the federal prison in McAllister and handyman/bus driver at Coleman School. He especially enjoyed his years working for the school where he developed a warm camaraderie with the teachers and students. After retiring, Marvin moved to Durant where he spent his time gardening and doing yard work. He was a member of the Baptist Church and Disabled American Veterans. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife Doratha; his brothers Henry, Clifton, and Ben Hardy; and his sisters Ruth Knight, Beulah Jones Lawley, Era Clifton, and Geneva Walsh. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Saturday, Jan. 3, 2008 at 10:00 at Tishomingo Cemetery.
