Bio

Martha Mathilda Brehm Hamacher was the daughter of Thoedore Brehm and Maria Mathilda Balzer . She was married twice, first to Roy "Leonard" Hampton from 1916-1929 and they had two children; Robert Hampton and Pearle Hampton Orland. Times were hard and the depression was going on. The family was broken up with Leonard traveling with his brothers and cousins to find various jobs to make ends meet. They got jobs painting smoke stacks and water towers, racing moter cycles in a dome, and then working as a steel worker on tall skyscrapers over 50 stories high! She never knew were they'd be from day to day it seemed, or if he'd be alive the next day for that mater. She probley had her fill of that wanting a less stressful life and was divorced in 29. In 1930 she married Charles "Lowell" Hamacher. He believed in living in one place, Escanaba, Michagan, were he had been all his life! Also working one job. Quite different from Leonard who couldn't stay put to beat the band. It was in Leonard's spirit to be free like a bird. He had the wonder lust and was a thrill seeker to boot, with no fear. I'm sure she knew it would catch up to him sooner or later and then she'd be in a spot. Things were bad enough with the depression going on. She had a history later in life of heart problems and finnally succumed to it when she was only 47. Her grand daughter Sylvia (Robert's daughter) is the spitting immage of her. - Taken from Family History by Bob Hampton.
