Central City Republican-Nonpareil, Thursday, December 6, 1956, page 1: Joseph Zmek, 79, dies Suddenly - Joseph Frank Zmek, 79, a prominent Chapman farmer, died suddenly at his home Sunday. A heart attack contributed to his death. He was born January 1, 1877 in Chatebor, Czechoslovakia, the son of Joseph and Mary Zmek. He grew to manhood in his native country, coming to the United States in 1900, settling in Butler county. He married Miss Mary Nabity Sept. 10, 1902 in Butler county. They moved to Merrick county, settling near Chapman, where he has lived his entire life. He was affiliated with the Z.C.B.J. fraternal order for over 50 years. Mr. Zmek is survived by his widow; four sons, James, Hutchinson Kan, Joseph, Chapman, Mathew, Archer and Lewis, Central City; four daughters, Mrs. Agnes Tuma, North Platte; Mrs. Christina Helzer, Central City, Mrs. Anna Reha, Dwight and Mrs. Sylvia Senkbile, Central City; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, one sister and four great-grandchildren. [...funeral details followed...]
