OBITUARY: Funeral services for Mrs. Adelia E. Mitchell, who died at Tarrant City Saturday afternoon, April 22nd, were held at the Baptist Church in Oneonta last Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Mrs. Mitchell was 72 years of age and had been in declining health for some time. She was the widow of the late Pickens B. Mitchell. She was born and reared in the Hood's Crossroads community and lived there until a short time before the death of Mr. Mitchell, when they moved to Birmingham to be near their children. It will be remembered that Mr. Mitchell was buried in Oneonta on Christmas Day, 1936. Mrs. Mitchell was the best known and most universally loved women who ever lived in Blount County. She was a high type Christian woman of sympathetic nature. She always took an active interest in the religious and social life of her county. For many years she was affiliated the Union Hill Baptist Church, where she maintained her membership until the last. Throughout her long and useful life she seemed to be the happiest when she making the burden of life easier for others to bear. The family, as well as her many friends, have sustained an inestimable loss and she will be sorely missed. The esteem and respect which was held for Mrs. Mitchell was manifested by the large concourse of people who gathered at the Baptist Church in Oneonta and by the beautiful floral offering. The funeral services were conducted in accordance with the request of the deceased. Rev. R.A. Tuck, of Centre, was in charge of the services, assisted by Rev. W.J. Nash. A Passage of Scripture was read by Rev. L.T. Fendley, with prayer by Rev. M.M. Crow. H.E. Huggins was in charge of the music and a special solo was rendered by Coy Huggins. The survivors are four sons, Jay H., Oscar O., Claude O., and Luther H. Mitchell, all of Birmingham; four daughters, Mrs. E.H. Saye, Mrs. D. H. Murphree, Mrs. A.D. Griffin, and Mrs. G.R. Young, all of Birmingham; and two sisters, Mrs. T. R. Bynum of Altoona, and Mrs. J.L. Saye of Loxley, Alabama. [The Southern Democrat, March 1939].
