Bio

Richard Paul Cervenka, Sr. (June 29, 1914 - November 12, 2008) "Dick" Richard Paul Cervenka Sr., of Georgetown, Texas passed away peacefully at home Wednesday morning November 12, 2008, at the age of 94. He was born June 29, 1914 on a farm near Granger, Texas to parents Frank and Rose Cervenka. He was the youngest of eleven children, six brothers and four sisters. He grew up in Granger and attended a grade school on the Cervenka farm and later graduated from Granger High school where he received a football scholarship to North Texas Agriculture College at Arlington, Texas. Dick graduated from Central Texas Commercial College. After college he returned to his hometown and was hired by the Williamson County Clerk where he rose to the position of chief clerk,. When World War II broke out, Dick joined the Navy and served until the end of the war. While serving in the Navy Dick married Effie Shivers on December 19, 1941. Following the war Dick and Effie returned to Georgetown and Dick resumed his job at the Count Clerks office. He ran for County Clerk, was elected and served in this position for forty years. Dick was extremely dedicated to this office and serving the people of Williamson County. Dick was a conscientious civic leader in the community working in various capacities in numerous organizations and he received the Outstanding Citizen Award. He was a member of the Texas District and County Clerks Association, a member of the Board of Directors and past president of Georgetown Lions Club, a member and past president of Georgetown Welfare Association, member of the Williamson County Livestock Association, member of American Legion Post 282, member and past president of Georgetown Country Club, member of the Georgetown Citizens Advisory Committee and of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, past president of Georgetown Girl Scout Neighborhood Association, past drive chairman and member of Georgetown United Fund, past secretary and member of the Baptist church for 62 years where he faithfully served as a Deacon and held almost every position within the church. Dick was preceded in death by Effie, his wife of 66 years. He is survived by his daughter Linda and her husband Fred Homeyer, his son Richard Paul Cervenka, Jr. and his wife Cheryl. He has three grandchildren, Dakota Cervenka, Casey Cervenka and Kelly Homeyer. He is also survived by a sister Minnie Helble and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Angie Vargas, Libby Coy and her daughter Cindy for being such devoted loving caregivers. Memorial may be made to Main Street Baptist Church at 1001 Main Street, Georgetown, Texas, 78628. Services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:00 am at Main Street Baptist Church, with a burial service following at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
