Ord Woman Is Polio Victim First Case Here Rites for Mrs. Alma Proskocil to Be Held Thursday Afternoon Polio claimed its first victim in the Valley county vicinity, when Mrs. Alma Proskocil died Monday at St. Francis hospital in Grand Island, of bulbar polio. Mrs. Proskocil had been receiving treatment there since last Wednesday. She had been in good health only a few days before. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Keith A. Shepherd in the Presbyterian Church Thursday afternoon. Interment will be in the Ord cemetery with Hastings-Pearson in charge of arrangements. Alma Mae Proskocil, daughter of Frank and Bessie Sich, was born at Burwell, Nebr., on May 24, 1928 and passed away at St. Francis hospital in Grand Island, Nebr., on July 28, 1952, at the age of 24 years, 2 months and 4 days. Alma Mae attended School District No. 49 and the Ord high school from which she was graduated in 1945. After graduation she taught school for two years in Valley county. On August 17, 1948, she was married to Leonard Proskocil. She has lived ever since on a farm east of Ord. To this union twin sons were born. Alma Mae was preceded in death by one sister, Edith, who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband Leonard; two sons, Gary Linn and Larry Lee; her father and mother, Frank and Bessie Sich; one brother, Eldon, of Ord; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Proskocil; four brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law; Joe and Emily Sinkule; Frank and Mary Cerny; James and Evelyn Proskocil; Ben and Lillian Tvrdik; Dorothy and Alice Jean Proskocil; Eldon and Bessie Sich; six nephews, two nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
