Goldie J. Friesen, the daughter of John P. and Elizabeth (Regier) Goertzen, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska on January 23, 1912 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on October 24, 2008, at the age of 96. Goldie was baptized by Reverend John Epp on June 8, 1930 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church. She attended country school through the 8th grade. On February 1, 1931, she was united in marriage to Edward G. Friesen. From their marriage were born three sons, Dean, Eugene and Grant, and one daughter, Lorine. After their marriage they farmed during the depression years south of Henderson. In 1943 they moved to a farm south of Aurora. In the early 1960's they moved to another farm near Phillips where they continued to farm until they retired in 1976. It was during their time on the family farm near Phillips that Goldie's grandchildren have some of their most fondest memories of Goldie; eating her homemade cookies and ice cream and cherry pancakes, riding with her in the pickup as she took lunch out to grandpa when he was working in the fields. After Goldie and Ed retired from farming they lived in Aurora for a few years before moving to a home in Henderson where they spent many evenings playing cards and dominoes with friends. They also enjoyed going on fishing trips and traveling around the state. On August 2, 1986 her husband Edward passed away in Henderson. Goldie then moved to Aurora where she resided in the Wortman's apartments. She enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and going out to lunch with friends. She also kept busy making several afghan blankets for her very appreciative grandchildren. Goldie moved to the East Park Villa in 2001. In January of 2007 she moved to the Hamilton Manor where she has resided until God called her to her eternal reward. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant sons Dean and Grant, brothers, Pete, Abraham, Albert and Harry and sisters Katie, Gertrude Marten and Mary Friesen. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Gene (Lois) Friesen of Lincoln; daughter, Lori Comer of Osage Beach, Missouri; grandchildren Michael Friesen of Lincoln, Monte Friesen of Lincoln, Dwight (Tena) Comer of Hordville, Dennis (Jill) Comer of Phillips, Mark (Deanne) Lake of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Jay (Debra) Claussen of Omaha, Mike (Donna) Ogle of Linn Creek, Missouri and Chuck (Darcie) Schreiber of Plattsmouth; great-grandchildren, Taylor Comer, Morgan Comer, Trevor Schanbel, Courtney Schanbel, Sarah Schanbel, Amber Comer, Shaunie Comer, Derek Lake, Mackenzie Lake, Devon Lake, Jared Claussen, Abbey Claussen, Micah Ogle, Isaiah Schreiber and Evan Schreiber, 1 great-great grandchild Quinci Lake, sister-in-law Orpha Friesen and many nieces and nephews. Goldie Friesen, age 96, of Aurora, died Friday, October 24, 2008, at the Hamilton Manor. Funeral Services were held Monday, October 27th at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel. Rev. Weldon Martens officiated.
