Bio

On April 9, 2021, Josephine Polansky Grygar died ending a pair of family eras. She was the last surviving grand-daughter (72 grandchildren) of Jan Polansky (1806-1878) and his wife, Josefa Velcovsky (1844-1898), and the last survivor of sixteen children born to Robert Franz (Frank) Polansky (1858-1948) and his wives, Julie Kuntz (1866-1908) 11 children and Mary Emilia Matcek (1882-1962) married 1910 and 5 children. She was the youngest child and was born in the family home on March 24, 1921 outside of Lyons, Texas (Burleson County). She attended elementary school in Lyons and interrupted her schooling after the eighth grade to work in the family hardware store for two years, while her next oldest brother finished high school himself. While working in the store, she acquired the ability to reach into a nail bin and then add or drop a few nails so that the amount of nails weighed exactly one pound. After two years in the store, she returned to Somerville (TX) High School and graduated in 1940. She married her husband, Walter Grygar on September 28, 1942 in Frenstat, TX. In 1943, they were both working in an aircraft factory in Grand Prairie, Texas. After World War II, they remained in the Dallas area until 1954 when they moved to Bell County. Together they raised five sons. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons (James Denis and Bernard Lee) and is survived by sons, Norbert and wife, Lynn, and Leslie of Temple and David and wife, Martha, of Carrollton, TX and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
