Alfred Crider BENTON- Alfred Crider, 82, of the Unity Road, died Saturday at his home. He was born in Hye, Teas, September 5, 1910, son of Julius and Nora (Randall) Crider. He was employed in the postal service at the University of Texas and later by the C.F Hathaway Company of Waterville for a few years. He and his wife, Jean H. Crider (who died in 1990), served a one-year mission at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Temple in Washington, D.C. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was an endowed member of the Hill City Masonic Lodge in Austin, Texas. He was also a member of the Gem and Mineral Society and had been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Waterville for several years. He enjoyed bird watching and gardening. He is survived by four sons, Paul Crider, M.D. of Farmers Branch, Texas, Alfred Crider Jr. of Manachaca, Texas, David Harris of Benton and Byron Davis of Kennett square, Pa; three daughters, Joyce Thompson of Wrangell, Alaska, Elaine Wilson and Bonnie Drouin, both of Fairfield; one brother Harold Crider of Marble Falls, Texas; one sister Vida Felps of Marble Falls, Texas: several grandchildren; great grandchildren. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Redington Funeral Home, 5 Park St. Waterville. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 50 Washington St., Waterville. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
