Bio

Thanks to contributor #47343179; Mrs. Michalski quietly departed this life early Wednesday morning following a long siege of illness. For the past six months she had been in very poor health and for the past sixteen weeks she had been bedfast. All of the children except Mrs. Lucy Malek of Walthill, Nebr. were at the bedside when she breathed her last. Victoria Damratowski was born in Poland, Dec. 25,1855 and died at her home in Loup City Nov 27, 1929, aged 73 years, 11 months and 2 days. In 1877 she was united in marriage to Mike Michalski. In 1882 the family emigrated to American and settled at Pittsburg, Pa., where they lived for two years. Then they moved to Nebraska, locating on a farm three miles north of Ashton. After living there sixteen years, the deceased, with her family moved to a farm six miles northeast of Loup City. In 1921 she and her husband retired from the farm and moved to Loup City, where they have since resided. Mrs. Michalski was the mother of fourteen children, five of whom died in infancy. Two daughters, Mrs. Anna Zolowski of Sargent, and Mrs. Katie Kozak of Fullerton, preceded their mother in death. The surviving relatives are the husband, four sons and three daughters. The sons are Frank of Ravenna, Joe of Elyria, Walter and Mike, Jr. of Loup City; the daughters are Mrs. Mary Papinernik of Tilden, Nebr., Mrs. Lillie Dembowski of Palmer, Nebr., and Mrs. Lucy Malek of Walthill, Nebr. There are also fifty-seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren besides many other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Friday morning at ten o'clock at the St. Josephat's church and interment made in the St. Josephat's cemetery. The sorrowing relatives and friends have the sincere sympathy of all, in their bereavement. -From the Loup City Standard The Palmer Journal, December 12, 1929, page 10, transcribed by Linda Berney
