Mills, Bro. Jack ATHENS - Services for Bro. Jack Mills, 89, Athens, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at New York Baptist Church with Bobby Smith and Charles Grasty officiating. Burial will be in New York Cemetery under direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Athens. Bro. Mills died Nov. 3, 2008. He was born Jan. 13, 1919, to the late Alonzo and Margie Jackson Mills. He graduated from LaPoyner High School in 1937. He graduated from East Texas Baptist College and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II in Italy and North Africa. He was Henderson County commissioner for Precinct 4 for five years before being ordained as a minister at LaRue Baptist Church. Mr. Mills pastored churches in Mount Vernon, Gilmer, Fort Worth, Bedford and New York. He was the founding camp director at Tarrant Baptist Association Encampment in Glen Rose, and founded the Jack Mills Evangelistic Association in 1991. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lou Ellen Mills, Athens; daughters, Jackie Lewis, Fort Worth, Martha Melton and Mary Beck, Athens; son, Mark Mills, Athens; sisters, Ila Heiskell and Von Ella Broussard; brother, Hays Mills; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, memorials can be made to Jack Mills Evangelistic Association in Athens.
