Velma Odessie Ross, 96, of Ethel died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997 at the Samaritan Memorial Hospital in Macon. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 10:30 a..m. at the Ethel Christian Church in Ethel with the Bro. Richard Castle officiating.Burial will be in the Bell Cemetery, north of Elmer. The family will receive friends from 9a.m. until the time of the funeral at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Ethel Christian Church, or the Loch Haven Nursing Home.Velma was born on July 28, 1901 in Elmer, the daughter of William A. and Leola Luella Keyte Koger.She was united in marriage to Milton Uriah Ross on Oct. 30, 1919 in Macon. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1976.She is survived by one son, Earl Ross and his wife Elizabeth of Mendon; one daughter, Doris St. Clair and her husband Bill of Goldsberry; one daughter-in-law, and Dean Ross of Kirksville, one son-in-law, Donald Atha and his wife Deloris of Ethel; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews, and many friends.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sons; Willard Ross, Bill John Ross, and Dean Ross; one daughter, Onita Atha; one grandson, Terry Atha; one great-grand son, Larry Don Atha; four brothers, Hobert Koger, Oplis Koger, and Ted Koger; and one half-sister Lula Everhart.Velma was a member of the Ethel Christian Church in Ethel, a member of the Church Quilters, and was a Sunday School teacher. She had worked at the Goldsberry Switchboard for several years and was a cook at the Ethel School. She had been a resident ofthe Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon for eight years.Services will be under the direction of Louis V Scudiero and Sons Funeral Homes of Bucklin and Marceline.
