Van was the son of Sidney Kerr and Susie Bain McCollough. Siblings were Bearice, Lola Mae, Trudy Matilda, Ruth Agnes and Willilam Lee McCollough. Van married Mary Leora Key in 1921. Their children were Joyce Vanette and Verna Sue McCollough.
