Bio

Lucy Amelia 'Mellie' Richardson was the daughter of Naomi Elizabeth Riggs (1841-1872) and Homer R. Richardson (1838-1868). She was named for her grandmother, Lucy C. (Kerr) Riggs. Lucy was not quite two years old when her father died and only five years old when her mother died in May 1872. She and her older brother, Sammie, were raised by their grandmother, Lucy C. (Kerr) Riggs , who was recently widowed. In the 1880 census, she was 13 years old and living with Lucy C. (Kerr) Riggs James and her new husband, Daniel James in Pawnee Township, Bourbon County, Kansas. She married John Alexander Taylor (1861-1943) on November 10, 1883 in Dallas County, Missouri. Children: Atlantis N. Taylor Wilkins (1884-1944) Della Matilda Taylor Swinney (1886-1911) In 1893, John Taylor left his family in Oregon and went to Helena, Montana, where he changed his name to John Jefferson Justice. His mother's maiden name was Justice. They were later divorced and he continued to support Lucy and the family. In 1896, Lucy married Edmund R. Wright (1865-1927) in Oregon. They later divorced. No children. Sometime before 1910, she married Mr. Laidlaw. They later divorced. No children. She then married Albert Pendergrass (1862-1944) on November 11, 1911 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. No children. Family history had it that Lucy died of influenza during the great flu epidemic, however recently Carol Weldon found her death certificate and it stated she died of Bright's disease.
