Bio

Charlotte Grace Larsen, age 95, died at Greenwood Assisted Living in Lehi, Utah on June 23, 2007, of old age. She was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 30, 1911 in Lehi, the 4th child of the late Jack and Myrtle Cummings Austin. Grace was born two months premature, and weighed only about three pounds. She was lovingly placed in a shoe box lined with cotton, and placed on the oven door of the old coal burning stove to keep warm. They fed her with an eye dropper. She attended grade school in Heber and Lehi, and high school in Lehi. Grace left home when she was 13 years old to work in Salt Lake as a nanny for the sum of $3.00 per week, and later in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Her parents were poor and it was difficult for them to support their large family, so she has a long history of hard work. She was married to Ernest Larsen on July 5, 1936 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where they both worked for the summer. They had six children. Her husband died 34 years earlier in 1973. She is known and loved by many as the owner of Larsen's Health Food Store in Orem, which she operated for about 30 years. She was knowledgeable with natural remedies and was able to care for her own body. She never went to a doctor or took any medications for her entire life and was in good health at age 95. Grace is survived by five of her children: Marilyn (Ken) Cardon, Lehi; Paul (Peggy) Larsen, Springville; Bob (Robin) Larsen, Salt Lake; Jon (Carmen) Larsen, Lehi; and Ray (Edna) Larsen, St. Augustine, FL; daughter-in-law Joan Larsen, her brother Howard (Pat) Austin, St. George; 30 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death in 2001 by her son, Kay Larsen, American Fork; great-grandson, Jamen Douglas Briggs; and four brothers and four sisters. Deseret News, June 27, 2007
