Bio

Audre Austin Brooks, 77, of Overton, Nevada, found peace and comfort in the arms of the Lord on May 3, 2001. Audre was born April 24, 1924, in Lehi, Utah, to Myrtle Wilhelmina Cummings and John Newbern Austin. She went to school and spent her early years in Lehi, but moved to California during the war and spent most of her adult life in Southern California where she met her current husband, Mel. She shared the last part of her life with her devoted husband of 33 years, Mel Brooks. Through the years, Audre enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. She was always ready to travel and hit the road, which she and Mel did frequently. Audre was a hard worker all her life. She had a wonderful voice and loved to sing and dance. Her sense of humor and zest for life was a joy to everyone who knew her. On the other hand, she was spunky and spoke her mind as well. As she aged, her health dictated that she reside recently at the Golden Living facility in Orem, which saddened all of us who loved her. She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Mel, as well as her five surviving daughters, Sharon Prather, Terra, UT; Pat Niverson, Orange, CA; Betty Snyder, Garden Grove, CA; Shirley Stanyer, Anaheim, CA; and Marilyn Carson, Huntington Beach, CA. Audre leaves behind her only remaining sister, Grace Larsen and two brothers, Lovell and Howard Austin. She touched many lives and adds to her legacy with 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Deseret News, May 5, 2001, Page A8
